Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God has advised Christians to stop praying against their enemies.
He gave the advice on Sunday November 3 at the thanksgiving service of the church in Lagos while preaching on the topic ‘divine wings’
According to him, it does not make sense praying against one’s enemy adding, ‘If you pray against your enemy, who will be around to celebrate you. The Bible says he will prepare a table before you in the presence of your enemy. We should not pray against them. Rather we should pray that God will make them repent.’
He explained further that it’s only those who are making great strides in life that are being envied.
‘When people are envious of you and speak evil against you don’t be bothered. You have to be great to be envied. If you pray for your enemy’s death who will be around to celebrate you’ he said.
Giving insight into the topic, he said it’s only God than can make a man to fly in life.
He urged his listeners not to be bothered about how God will do it. ‘God is the burden bearer. He is the one who said he would carry your burden. It is not for you to know how he would do it. You just believe him.’
Sharing a personal example, he said he had often wondered how God lifted him up in life despite coming from an extremely poor family.
He recounted how the president of an African country treasured a meeting he had with him.
His words, ‘I went to an African country for a crusade and wanted to see the president of the country. I was told I could not see him. But when the president knew I was around he offered to see me. I was with him and we kept talking. When it was two hours of meeting, I told him people are already waiting at the crusade ground for me. He said let them wait. They have people they can talk with. Me I don’t have. We ended up spending five hours.’
Adeboye said at the end of the meeting with the president he began to wonder how God had given him so much privilege and promoted him in life
While stressing that believers should not be bothered about how God does his work, he said, ‘Your brain is too small to comprehend God. It will take 1000 years to study all that is to know in mathematics.
‘It is only when I am in the presence of those who don’t know maths that I say I know maths. But in the presence of mathematicians I discovered that it’s only a fraction of mathematics I know.’
He explained that if it takes so long to study mathematics, how much more God, who knows all things.
The RCCG stated, ‘We are carrying too many burdens. There is one called the burden bearer. He bears your burden. When God is the one carrying you, he will take you to where you don’t expect’
