Time to pray for peaceful restructuring of Nigeria-Olakunle

Demonstrations organised on social media erupted earlier this month calling for the abolition of a notorious police unit accused of unlawful arrests, torture and extra-judicial killings. The government gave in to the demand on October 11, 2020, announcing that the federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) was being disbanded in a rare concession to people power in Africa's most populous nation. Please let us begin to pray concerning the peaceful Restructuring of this Nation in a way that will guarantee equity and fair play in our socio-economic and political space. Some of us have been writing on this subject matter and repeating the same since 2017.

A few days ago- specifically on Thursday, the  21st of January 2021, some Elder statesmen from different parts of the country gathered at a Special Lecture convened by the Daily Trust newspaper in Abuja and lent their supports to this Call. These Elder- statesmen, among others, include Former President Goodluck Jonathan, Chief John Nwodo, Prof. Attahiru Jega, and Chief Ayo Adebanjo.

But The Presidency seems to be dodging the issue and instead offered to pass on the bulk to the National Assembly. The truth is that when The Presidency gives the right  Signal to the National Assembly, the Federal Legislators know how to collect the baton and run a successful race for the peaceful Restructuring of this country before we enter a panic mode. And may GOD forbid such a transition to a confused state of events in our Land in JESUS Name.

Bandits seem to have taken up the Land and wasting precious lives including those of our Security men especially those in the Military. And the  State Governments who dared to put up constitutional arrangements to secure their respective Federating Units are being resisted by the actions and inactions of some Federal Government functionaries.

Hence, what do we do in moments like these when deaf ears are being turned to passionate and sincere calls for peaceful Restructuring of the country?

It is fervent Prayers of course. Let’s, therefore, direct our subsequent Calls/ Cries unto GOD for His urgent and divine intervention in His own way in line with Psalm 121.

If we shy away and refused to pray some specific prayers for GOD’S intervention in our national affairs from the comforts of our homes and worship centres, the current unrest in our land may gradually snowball into a State of Anarchy which no one hopes or prays for.

This is a wise counsel and word of wisdom to those who can get the understanding of the time we are passing through in Nigeria just like the Biblical Sons of Issachar.
