RCCG Social support programme: 8.5M people benefitted so far – Obiagwu

Pastor Enoch Adeboye

RCCG Corporate Social Responsibility

About 8.5 million people have so far benefited from the corporate social responsibility of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) since the initiative began a few years ago.

The Pastor of the Rose of Sharon Parish of the church, Emeka Obiagwu has said.

Though the church has been at the vanguard of rendering support and help to the less privileged, the General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, a few years ago, made it mandatory for all parishes of the church to take corporate social responsibility as a project. This is because of the growing poverty in the country.

Obiagwu however noted at the monthly meeting of the widows in his parish; that a total of about 8.5 million people have so far been supported across the country by the church’s empowerment and feeding programmes.

At the monthly widows’ programme of Rose of Sharon parish during which Pastor Obiagwu preached, items worth about N4 million were donated to widows.

Gesture an extension of RCCG Corporate Social Responsibility

In a later interview with reporters he said, “What we are doing is just an extension of the RCCG social corporate responsibility. To show how serious the project is, a special assistant to the General Overseer, Pastor Idowu Iluyomade was represented here by Pastor Collins Ekpenyong. Also here was the wife of the provincial pastor of Lagos Province 35, Pastor Mrs. Yinka Morgan. This goes to show the emphasis which the church places on things like this.”

He then noted that the feeding and empowerment programmes of the church have so far been extended to about 8.5 million people. He said further, “It should also be noted that RCCG renovated the Intensive Care Unit of LASUITH. The church’s Cancer Screening Centre of the RCCG has been a blessing to over 100,000 people. In Lagos about 2000 are fed daily in about eight centres across the state. People come, we pray with them and feed them.

“The RCCG is renovating prisons in the country. Every parish of the RCCG is keying into the initiative to bless people around.”

When reminded that people still complain about the church not doing enough, he said, “The truth is, no matter what you do, you will still have people who will complain. The church for instance has education endowment funds that assist indigent people. Pastor Adeboye has set up grants of about N50 million in many universities. Many more things are being done that we don’t necessarily have to talk about in the public. The church can’t take over the role of the government. But we will always assist the government to help the poor”

He however added that everything is not about food. “The word of God gives hope. We had to share the word to the widows here this morning from the book of Luke 7v17 about the widow of Nain. The word of God leads to trust. When you have trust in God, he would send help. You could see the emotional outburst of some of the widows today who got things they were not expecting. They came to pray but got a surprise”
