Following the recent killings in Plateau State, Prophet Isa El-Buba has said that the country has been thrust into a “war situation” while calling on all Nigerians to remain vigilant.
Prophet El-Buba made the lamentation and appeal during a social media broadcast on Monday, March 30.
It will be recalled that armed bandits caused mayhem in the state on Sunday, March 29, in what has been dubbed the “Palm Sunday Massacre.”
The attack took place in the Angwan Rukuba area of Jos, resulting in the deaths of at least 27 people.
Reports indicate that 14 victims died at the scene, while 13 others were injured and transported to the hospital when unidentified gunmen reportedly opened fire at a popular gathering spot around 8:00 pm on Sunday March 29.
The State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, condemned the “barbaric and unprovoked” attack and implemented a 48-hour curfew in the affected area to prevent further escalation and allow security forces to restore order.
However, Prophet El-Buba insisted that the government cannot feign ignorance regarding the massacre.
He recalled that authorities had been alerted to the terrorists’ plans to attack the state and urged the government to act swiftly to secure lives and property.
According to El-Buba, the perpetrators had previously threatened to kill people in Plateau State after Ramadan.
”If we are going to stop this genocide, we must not politicize what is going on. The individuals who said they would carry out these killings are on social media,” he stated.
While declaring that Nigeria is in a war situation, he added: “We must protect ourselves. You should be sensitive enough to know that there are people who have vowed to take lives. We can stop it, and we must stop it. Mr. President must act, and act fast,” he pleaded.
