How and why prayers are not answered…the Jesus Perspective by John Abiola

by Church Times

What did Jesus say about prayer?

Matthew 21:22 “And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive”.

Mark 9:29. And he said to them, “This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.”  Mark 11:24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them”.

In one edition of this column, I gave a vivid explanation of the power of prayer, “Prayer is one of the greatest assets every believer in Christ has. It is one of the most important benefits or rights God has provided for us His children. Prayer is a medium, through which God seeks to hear our voice, while He in turn talks back to us, revealing His will and His plans for our lives, churches, communities, and nations.

Prayer as it has been explained is the most powerful weapon to set the captives free. Yet, it is not every prayer that gets to God, set captives free from satanic bondage, or unlocks miracles.

*Let’s look at the Bible for some of the reasons why believers’  prayers are not heard by God, and a true confession of how Satan stops prayers in the heavens.*

God has conditions for answering prayers and He has not changed since the Bible times, neither will He change in our time, nor in future generations to come. The conditions are:

In Proverbs 15:8 (ESV) the Bible said, “The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD, but the prayer of the upright is acceptable to him”.

In John 9:31, the Bible says, “Now we know that God does not hear sinners; but if anyone is a worshiper of God and does His will, He hears him.”

Proverbs 28:9-14  (ASV) the Bible says “He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, Even his prayer is an abomination. Whoso causeth the upright to go astray in an evil way, He shall fall himself into his own pit; But the perfect shall inherit good”.

 (1) The labour in prayer of a sinner is an abomination to God.

(2)God does not hear a sinner’s prayer except that of repentance

(3) He that disobey God’s law, his prayer is an abomination.

(4) He that leads a believer astray will fall into his own pit .

Testimony of a former satanist

Let me share part of the testimony of a former satanist who became a born-again Christian. He revealed how satanic agents stop pastors’ and Christians’ prayers. He also talked about those that are living in sin, preaching the materialistic gospel and refusing to turn back to God in genuine repentance. I read his confession from a small book titled, HOW SATAN STOPS PRAYER.

This man was born after his parents had dedicated themselves to Lucifer, this was when he was still in the womb, and they performed many rituals to dedicate him to the service of Lucifer. At ten, he did tremendous exploits for the kingdom of the devil and was feared by his parents and common witches.

He said when he was still serving the devil, he was so terrible in the things he did. He grew to be a young man in his twenties with a lot of blood on his hands. He killed at will. He had the ability to leave his body through transcendental meditation. And he could levitate; at times his body would rise off the ground and hang in the mid-air.

“Sometimes he would go into a trance and leave his body; his body would remain behind while he went out into the world, by a practice called “astral traveling”. He was used by Satan to destroy or divide many Churches, and to ruin many pastors. On one occasion, he was assigned to destroy a church that was full of people praying.

The praying church

“There had been much division in the church and much confusion. He began to work against it. But at that time, the pastor called a fast for the whole church. As the church began to fast, there was much repentance and a lot of reconciliation. The people came together and began to pray for the Lord to work in their midst.

“They continued interceding and crying out to God to have mercy on them and to intervene in their lives. As the days went by, the man came again and again against the church with demonic spirits. He led a powerful force of demonic spirits against the church.

He said his spirit moved through the air over the church and tried to attack it, but there was a covering of light over the church. Suddenly, an army of angels attacked them and fought against them in the air. All the demons fled, but he was arrested by the angels. As he finished, he made an appeal. There are many pastors in the room. He said to the pastors, ” I appeal to you, please teach the people how to pray”.

The people who don’t pray can be taken in by the devil,  and there are ways that the enemy can exploit their lives and their prayers. The enemy knows how to exploit the prayers of those who don’t know how to pray.”

Teach the people how to use the spiritual armor that God provides”( read Ephesians 6:10-20)

Then he shared how he led expeditions through the air; He would go with other satanic agents and many demonic spirits. It was as if they were working a shift, the same way you run shifts at work. He had regular time that he was required to go and wage war in the heavens.

He said in the spiritual realm if the land is covered by a blanket of darkness, the blanket is so dense it is like solid rock. And it covers the whole area. The spirits are able to go on top and below the blanket, and from there influence the events on earth.

Demons refresh their spirits

When the evil spirits and human satanic agents finish their shifts, they go down to earth at the points of covenant, on water or on land, to refresh their spirits.

How do they refresh their spirits? By the sacrifices that people give at their altars. This could be sacrifices in open witchcraft, sacrifices in bloodshed of all types, including abortions, warfare, and human and animal sacrifices. This could be sacrifices of sexual immorality, and all kinds of promiscuity. Such acts strengthen these powers. There are different types of sacrifices.

He said that when satanic agents are up in the heavenly realm, and Christians begin to pray on earth, the Christian prayers appear to them in three forms. All prayers appear like smoke that is rising toward heaven.

*Some prayers appear like smoke that drifts along and vanishes in the air. These prayers come from people who have sinned and are not willing to deal with it. Their prayers are very weak; they are blown away and disappear in the air.*

Another type of prayer is also like smoke, It rises upward until it reaches the rock; it cannot break through the rock. These prayers usually come from people who try to purify themselves, but who lack faith as they pray. They usually ignore the other important aspects that are needed when someone prays.

The third type of prayer is like smoke that is filled with fire. As it rises upward, it is so hot that when it reaches that rock, the rock begins to melt like wax. It pierces the rock and goes through”.

Prayer, empty noise without repentance

Therefore,  neglecting the conditions above, our prayers, fasting, praises, worship, intercessions, etc are empty noises unto God. And that’s even if our prayers are not being stopped by the Devil and his agents in the heavens.

Pastors teach repentance and holiness in your churches and other gatherings. God cannot change His conditions as regards answers to our prayers. It doesn’t matter the volume of your prayers,  scriptures you are quoting, prayer guides and strategy you apply, and the number of days of fasting you observed,  be it in your closet, church building, prayer mountain, or anywhere else, God’s condition is still the same. It says,  Be holy as your father is holy.

Bible says, ” The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much”( James 4:16).

Righteousness and holiness are the foundation of God for answering prayers for deliverance, healing, breakthrough, restoration, and revival in your life, church, community, and nation.

Only living a righteous life can make our prayers effective.

*Note*: ” As the church began to fast, there was much repentance and a lot of reconciliation.  The people came together and began to pray for the Lord to work in their midst.

They continued interceding and crying out to God to have mercy on them and to intervene in their lives. Suddenly an army of angels attacked them and the demons fled. Genuine repentance, turning back to God, righteous living and holy lifestyles are keys to answered prayers”.

The prequisites of effective prayers is undisputable, and one of them is being right with God meaning; Holiness should be an habitual practice of our daily life. Secondly, obstinacy in confessing ones sins, the psalmist David said if I regard iniquity in my heart the Lord will not hear me. Until all sins are confessed to God that is when our prayers can be effective. God is an holy God we should strive to live a holy life, without Holiness our prayers would seem ineffective. Holiness is required to access the throne room of God. Let us strive to live a holy life in all ramification of our life, because without Holiness we can not make it to Heaven and see God.

Prayer is not only asking and receiving from God; binding and loosing, decreeing, commanding, demanding, yelling, shouting; prayer is communion and fellowship with God and worshipping Him. God desires to do something more in our lives than He desires to do something for us. Prayer changes things, situations and circumstances; but prayer does more to change the person praying.
What did Jesus go to mount of Transfiguration to do? He didn’t go there for a jamboree, picnic, panorama or sight-seeing. He went there to pray. And when He prayed His countenance was transformed. The word transfiguration is synonymous to “transformation,” “metamorphosis,” “change” and “conversion.”
Of all the Synoptic writers, only Luke captures it properly. Because Luke has prayer as one of his key themes. “And it came to pass about an eight days after these sayings, he took Peter and John and James, and went up into a mountain to pray. And as he prayed, the fashion of his countenance was altered, and his raiment was white and glistering” (Luke 9:28-29). The other parallel passages are Matthew 17:1-9; Mark 9:2-10. This statement as he prayed, the fashion of his countenance was altered, and his raiment was white and glistering is not literal; it’s metaphorical.
In the Bible, garment symbolizes character. According to Luke, Jesus’ countenance was altered and his raiment was white and glistering. Luke made reference to the Old Testament prophecy of Malachi 3:1-3 of the Messenger of Jehovah who would suddenly come to His temple. Jesus is that Messenger of Jehovah. The Messenger of Jehovah would be “like a refiner’s fire” and” fuller’s soap.” “And He shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and shall purify the sons of Levi, purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the LORD an offering in righteousness.”(KJV).
Prayer changes the countenance and character of a man. The more a person prays the more he or she becomes like Jesus.
Luke also captures the theme of holiness and righteousness when he wrote, “The oath which he sware to our father Abraham, That he would grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies might serve him without fear, In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life” (Luke 1:73-75KJV).
Our ministry of prayer, preaching and teaching becomes more effective, efficacious and impactful only when it is done in a lifestyle of holiness and righteousness. Righteousness implies right relationship with God/men and holiness means purity of heart, life and motive; a lifestyle of integrity and unimpeachable character. Righteousness comes through salvation in Christ and salvation comes by grace through faith (Eph. 2:8). Jesus is our righteousness and sanctification (1Cor. 1:30).
Prayer also makes us holy. Without holiness no man shall the Lord. The Apostle Paul writes, “Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord (Heb. 12:14). No man can see the Lord in His glory in this life and in eternity.
Prayer changes a man more than anything else and God desires to do something in the life of a man more than He wants to do something for him.
Lack of genuine conversion experience/repentance, unconfessed sins, unforgiveness, faithlessness, and asking with wrong motives could be the reasons for unanswered prayers or hinderances to prayer.

This is profound, the church has forgotten some very important key factors as regards prayers, prayers is more than making a prayer point and praying it. Prophet John encapsulates the major issues surrounding unanswered prayers.

Prayer is interaction, intimacy with God and to have that, purity is an unbending perquisite, it is in this interactions with God that answers are released. God wants to come in the cool of anytime and gist with you, tell you his mind, plans and you bear out your mind to him, he then brings you into his will, which in turns births answers to prayers.
I would enjoin all and sundry to employ this in their prayer life, as I would also, so that we all enjoy a life of answered prayers in our life, family and nation.

Prayer is an important weapon that must be used faithfully and righteously. When the church prays rightly, God hears and respond according to his will and purpose for our lives. Whenever any evil power want to attack the church, they will target the prayer arm of the church. We need to follow God’s mind during prayer and seek His face for our nation and our church.

Turn us unto thee, O Lord and we shall be turned, cause your face to shine upon us and have mercy on us. Remember the sure mercies of David and answer our prayers in Jesus name Amen.
