Pastor Okonkwo explains tattoo, faces more backlash from Netizens

The internet remains restless following the unusual move of Pastor Kingsley Okonkwo to wear tattoo and his defence of the action.

Pastor Okonkwo, often referred to as “PK,” is a prominent Nigerian minister, relationship coach, and author. He is best known for his focus on marriage and family life, and he serves as the Lead Pastor of David’s Christian Centre (DCC) in Lagos, Nigeria.

He took to the social.media on Monday February 2 to explain why he tattooed his hand a few days ago on his 50th birthday with the Roman figure indicating  John 3v16

He stated that the decision was a matter of personal preference and questioned why people were making a fuss when there are more serious matters of national interest to discuss.

”You are bothered about my tattoo when an election is around the corner and the people who are holding Nigeria are meeting and strategizing,” he said. “I will do more. By the way, what is wrong with a tattoo? Don’t you know there is a pastor that has dreads in this Lagos?”

He likened tattoos to the eyelashes women wear, claiming there is nothing wrong with the practice. “Your apostles and bishops are old. If they don’t like tattoos, that is their preference and I don’t begrudge them. I am sent to the young people.”

While disclosing that those in his youth church have “weird” ways of dressing, he argued that the younger generation is simply more creative in their fashion sense.

However, many reactions, even from young people, show they remain unconvinced by his defence.

Reactions from Netizens

The response was swift and largely critical. Comments like “You go explain tire” (meaning he will exhaust himself trying to justify it) flooded his pages. Some accused him of exhibiting pride, while others questioned his spiritual depth.

A Facebook user by the name Moving Ark wrote, “Not all pastors are genuine men of God… If you have truly encountered God, there will be evidence visible through His unmistakable signature in your life. Do not be misled into the land of destruction.”

Richard Oluwafemi stated, “This shows how dangerous it is for a man to step into sacred pastoral commitment without the depth of an encounter with Christ Jesus.

Jon Don believes the most important thing is not whether something is allowed or not. Paul says we should not be a cause of stumbling for others. If it causes God’s people to stumble, then it is already wrong.”

For Isaac Newton John Pastor Okonkwo goofed: “You goofed big time! You’re a General Overseer, but you don’t need this; it’s very immature. Can you imagine Pastors Poju or Andrew Osakwe doing what you’ve just done?”

Olanrewaju Daodu in his reaction wrote, “KO is not exegetically sound. This whole drama would have been avoided if his idiosyncratic decision had been done privately. It is more about the reckless and ostentatious exhibitionism of a Christian leader.”

Joseph Aja: Quoted 1 Corinthians 6:12: “All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient.”

While a few commenters saw no issue with the pastor’s choice, the majority of the discourse centered on the responsibilities of leadership and the scriptural interpretation of Christian liberty.
