Opportunities come but once, who told you that lie?

By Dr. Segun Tremendous Oshinaga

It is a long-held saying that is not worth the breath expended on it. It is a limiting truism. If you believe it, you give up expecting another opportunity because you missed the last one. It is bad enough that you missed or messed up the last opportunity that came your way. But I’ve got good news for you.

There are thousands and thousands of opportunities always coming by daily. In fact, there are always more opportunities than you know what to do anything with. If you were to take on every opportunity that comes your way, you won’t be able to do nothing else with your life but to check them out.

“Forgetting the things that are behind and reaching out for the things that are ahead, with this goal in mind, I strive toward the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus”
Phil. 3:13b-14 NET

Permit me to paraphrase a part of this Scripture.

Forgetting the opportunities I missed behind and reaching out, looking forward with faith to the opportunities ahead.

Don’t stew at your missed opportunities. You missed it? You’ve missed it. Get your attention away from the past, however painful. You still breathe? Great. Every breath is a new opportunity. Life can get better and taste sweeter.

“Life is a long line of opportunities.”
John Wicker

It is important to know this truth so you don’t give up on yourself because you are no longer expecting more opportunities.

When you believe that lie, it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy – you don’t see opportunities simply because you are no longer looking for them. Even if they show up right under your nose, you won’t recognize them as opportunities because you have become desensitized to them as a result of your belief.

But bless God, in the next twenty – four hours, you will have more opportunities coming your way than you saw in the past one year. Just open yourself to them.

“There are many people who are at the right place at the right time but don’t know it.”
Seneca

That indeed is a tragedy. To be at the right place at the right time and not know it is certainly a tragedy of monumental proportion. Ideas are opportunities. People are opportunities. Places are opportunities.

May God open your eyes today. When we maltreat people, we throw away opportunities. Ideas that you threw way carelessly have made others rich. People that you didn’t value and appreciate have opened doors of opportunities to others. Places that you treated cavalierly have made fortunes for others.
