Founder of Akwa-Ibom based Power City, Dr. Abel Damina has said when intending couples have sex before marriage, they don’t necessarily incure the wrath of God, but have only destroyed the fabric of trust in their relationship.
Damina was responding to a question by an inquirer during a question and answer session transmitted online.
The inquirer had complained that the church he attends has been victimising him for having sex before marriage asking if “sex before marriage is a sin”
The inquirer had said his church had threatened they won’t join him and his intended wife because according to the church by having sex before marriage they had incurred the wrath of God.
But Damina said sex before marriage does not incure God’s wrath as being stated by the church but that it only causes problems between the couple and affects the element of trust.
“When you have sex before marriage, you have only destroyed the fabric of trust. It will be difficult to trust one another again and marriage will open room for more infidelity in the future.” He said.
He explained further that when a man has sex with his prospective wife, the man has nothing to look forward again to in the marriage. “he has seen it all. So, he may not be excited about marriage again.” He said.
Damina, however, counselled that if any intending couple have made the mistake of having sex before marriage, they should meet their pastors and work towards rebuilding the confidence in themselves.
He said when intending couples keep themselves before marriage, they are able to build trust and also able to remain committed to one another.
“It is good to honour yourselves and wait until things are officially done before you start having sex. If mistakenly you have slept with yourselves, you can report to your church to counsel you properly so you can be restored. But it does not mean God’s wrath is upon you.” He said.
