Pastor Yemi Davids, New PFN Chair

In line with his commitment to accountability to the church, the Chairman of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Lagos State Chapter, Pastor Yemi Davids, has presented a detailed report on the funds raised and relief efforts undertaken to support victims displaced by recent violent attacks in Yelwata, Benue State.

It will be recalled that these communities have been in the face of the storm suffering devastating assaults from unidentified assailants in recent time.

The assaults led to the displacement of hundreds of families.

The widely reported attacks were condemned by concerned individuals and organizations who also reached out in support of the communities.

Don’t curse the darkness shine the light

In a compelling video appeal following the crisis, Pastor Yemi Davids urged the Church in Lagos to respond proactively, stating, “Instead of cursing the darkness, the Church must shine the light.”

Following the video, the PFN Lagos, in partnership with Acts of Mercy and Sesor Empowerment Foundation, launched the Benue Relief Campaign to mobilize support for the affected communities.

According to Rev. Tonye Oliver, PFN Lagos Publicity Secretary and Director of Digital Media, a total of ₦42.6 million was raised through generous contributions from churches and individuals across Lagos.

How the funds were spent

The funds was used to procure mattresses, bedsheets and essential household items including foodstuff and groceries in large quantities

These relief materials were distributed to approximately 1,000 displaced families, with a major focus on those in IDP camps within Yelwata and surrounding areas.

The report was accompanied by video documentation showing the delivery and distribution process by the PFN team and partners.

Appreciation

Many who benefitted from the gesture of the fellowship expressed great appreciation. Some of the beneficiaries prayed that God will continually bless the donors.

Pastor Davids in turn thanked all churches and individuals who contributed funds to make the project a successful one. He expressed optimism that the funds will go a long way to alleviate the pain of the victims of assaults in Benue State
