The President of Anchor Leadership Academy (ALA), Dr. Bolarinwa Omotosho, has said a properly coordinated mentorship programme can solve many of the challenges faced by younger women in society.

He made the submission at the maiden edition of the Next-generation Women Leaders Summit(NGLWS), held on Saturday, March 25th at the West Africa Theological Seminary, Lagos.

Mentorship according to him is “the most important way forward; it is a model that can solve many problems women face in their marriage, ministry, workplace, and community.”

What the Book of Titus says

Quoting from the book of Titus, he said, “the older women must train the younger women to love their husbands and their children, to live wisely and be pure, to work in their homes, to do good, and to be submissive to their husbands. Then they will not disgrace the word of God. This is the law of equipping and disciplining. The older women are to mentor and model for young leaders”.

Omotosho who chaired the event said, balancing marriage and ministry is like walking a tightrope.  “As a matter of fact,  some will be fighting, quarreling, or be in unresolved conflict with their spouse and still take the liberty to come to church and minister. Anyone in this position is sending poison from the pulpit to the pew.  It is a must that husbands and wives settle their quarrels before coming to church.

Character building in women

In her submission, the convener of the programme, Dr. Priscilla Omotosho stressed the significance of the character of women in mentorship.

She said this would ensure there is a holistic look at their marriage, ministry, workplace, and community.

According to her, “licentious women are those who lack moral discipline or sexual restraint. This kind of woman is paraded in the book of Proverbs so that others will take caution Such a woman is so dangerous, especially to office holders. Licentious people (male or female) destroy marriages”. She emphasized.

Priscilla Omotosho also stressed the need to let women know that men look for character and reliability in their women. “These are some of the things that hold women back.  This narrative must change. We need an inclusive biblical culture to manage our marriage, ministry, and corporate life”, she added.
