The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye has explained how he ended up as a lecturer at the University of Lagos while also noting that perhaps, if he had not come to the university he would not have known the Lord.
Speaking at the November edition of the monthly Holy Ghost night of the church which held on Friday at the main auditorium of the church in Shimawa, Ogun State, Adeboye said his coming to UNILAG was by divine arrangement for the purpose of saving his soul.
The RCCG General Overseer who spoke on the theme stronger than your enemy, a theme that has been explored since the beginning of the year assured the people that God has a purpose for anything that happens in their lives citing his own example.
He recalled, “My plan was to travel out of the country for my post graduate programme and I had applied for the commonwealth scholarship. I was invited for the interview and quite naturally one expected that the interview would be based on my core area of discipline which is Mathematics. The panelists were faithful to that as they kept asking me questions on my discipline which I answered easily”
But as the interview was going on, the chairman of the panel was dozing. When they were about to round up other members of the panel tapped him and asked if he had any question for Adeboye.
“Just from the blues, the man asked me where is Entebe? I was alarmed because I did not do geography and I wondered how he expected me to know where Entebe is. I told him, sir, my core area is Mathematics, I did not do geography. The members of the panel laughed. I knew from there that I would not get the scholarship.” He recalled.
As he stepped out of the interview he met one of his professors who asked what he was doing and he told him he had come for the commonwealth scholarship interview to study abroad for his postgraduate. It was the professor who said to him that he would not go anywhere that he knew his capacity and that he would come and join him at the University of Lagos where they needed somebody of his caliber. That was how he ended up at the University of Lagos.
While recalling that he came to know the Lord while teaching at the University of Lagos, he said God has a way of ordering the steps of a man for his own purpose. He then told the gathering that no matter the situation they are facing that God would eventually turn it for good.
The November Holy Ghost Night which was anchored on the sub-theme, My Sun shall rise again, attracted top Nigerians including Vice President Yemi Osibajo and his wife.
Adeboye said to the audience that no matter how long the night is, it would break into day. “In the arrangement of God the evening comes before the day. I can assure you that your sun shall rise again no matter how the situation looks.” He said.
Giving several instances from the Bible, the former lecturer turned preacher said God always has a plan to intervene in the life of man for the purpose of his kingdom. “What we need is that assurance that God will always intervene in our situations for his own good. The day will definitely come after the evening. That is the arrangement of God. When we know this, we will not despair.”
