Good works, fasting and prayer can’t score points with God-Abel Damina

By Naomi Omoruyi

Founder of Uyo based Power City International, Dr. Abel Damina has said all the good works men do can’t score points with God.

He, however, said the Christian faith is based on the revelation of God in Christ stating that anybody who does not have that understanding won’t enjoy a robust relationship with God.

Damina who is noted for his Christocentric message and his challenge of the old order made this known in a recent message monitored by Church Times correspondent.

He explained that until a man has that revelation, he will only be playing religion adding that “religion is man trying to reach God. It is man looking for how to get to God. It is man doing good works to qualify for God’s acceptance.

Damina said further, “religion is man making efforts to be accepted by God. Man’s efforts can never gain God’s acceptance. But religion keeps one struggling, but in the end, it leads to futility because one discovers that one is still empty.”

He said that the “Christian faith is based on what had already been done for man by Christ. It is not about looking for how to get to God, but God has come to man. It is not man struggling to please God, but God in man -Christ, has pleased himself.”

Quoting the Bible, he said, “God said of Jesus, this is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased. When Jesus Christ who is the pleasure of God enters a man, the man pleases God because of Jesus in him.”

He said in the message that prayers, fasting, struggle to be moral are all good to the natural man but they do not score points with God.

Mortal men, he explained, cannot score points with God.
