Enenche turns down N30M gift from Kebbi State governor, urges him to give money to orphanage

The founder of Abuja-based Dunamis Christian Centre, Dr. Paul Enenche has turned down a N30 million gift from the governor of Kebbi State, Mohammed Nasir Idris

The money was offered to him by a representative of the governor at a massive outdoor evangelical programme organised by the Church in Kebbi State.recentky.

The representative who was given the opportunity to address the crowd of worshippers at the crusade ground told the tumultuous crowd that he was pleased to announce the gift of the sum of N30 million to the gathering as directed by the governor..

Making the announcement.as shown in a viral video published online, he said the governor appreciates the visit of Pastor Enenche and the fact that he came to the state to hold an evangelical programme.

He then went on to announce the donation of the money to the gathering saying the governor was pleased to release the sum of N30 million to the gathering.

To assure his listeners that the offer was genuine, he said the money was available in cash and that he was ready to hand it over to the church..

But in a swift response, Enenche who was obviously taken aback by the gesture said in a rather polite way that the church would not accept such money.

He went on to appreciate the gesture of the governor and praised his heart of generosity.

But he insisted that the church would not want such money. Rather he suggested to the representative of the governor to give the said amount to an orphanage or any other institution the governor so wishes.

Responding the representative of the governor thanked Pastor Enenche for his selflessness and his devotion to the cause of God.

Ordinarily, this would sound or appear good, righteous, and altruistic, but is it? When did he start rejecting financial gift from the public and government? How many of such public donations has he rejected before? On what basis did he reject the money - that it is from government or that the church does not accept such donations? Would he have rejected the money if it was offered privately? This smacks of sensationalism, and even hypocrisy. He cannot be tasking his people to give the money, most of them don't have, and at the same time reject such freewill giving. Is this the first gift from any government to him and the church? Why didn't he reject the others or previous donations? My immediate take or reaction is that he rejected it because of the open announcement that went with it. How can he explain a church that collects money from corrupt politicians, Yahoo boys, and even armed robbers and ritualists claims to reject such gift? The church does not ask its members the source of money they give; and as one of the largest churches - if not the largest - in Abuja, he can't claim ignorance of the corruption that pervades the public service, most of whom constitute his members. Uche Chris, If you were hungry and someone gave you food and announce it to your neighbours how would you feel about the food not to talk of when you are not hungry. Do you know what the pastor knows that made him reject the money? He is a spiritual man and knows better the reason for his actions. We can't judge every action of men of God from the physical perspective alone.
