Day I lost the fear of death-Adeboye
‘Death has lost its hold on me. I am no longer bound by the fear of death’
That was the declaration of Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God while delivering his sermon today May 3 online.
He said he conquered the fear of death long ago as a result of some actions that his mother took while she was alive.
He said his mother once called him and pleaded with him to go buy her coffin and also engage a tailor to sew a wedding gown that would be worn on her when she must have died.
Her mother made the plea because she was getting worried that Pastor Adeboye perhaps won’t be around at her burial because of his many travels and engagements.
Adeboye obeyed his mother, bought the coffin and also got a sister to sew a beautiful wedding garment for her.
His mother put on the wedding garment and also slipped inside the coffin to feel the coffin and experience a glimpse of what it looked like to be buried in a coffin.
Adeboye said that singular act struck a chord in him and made him lose the fear of death completely.
‘That day I lost the fear of death. That day I knew death had lost its grip on me. You don’t begin to live until you have lost the fear of death.
‘A child of God knows that when death comes, it’s an entrance to life. A child of God knows that death is an open door to be married to Christ’ He said.
While assuring that death can’t come until one’s time is up on earth, he said, ‘There is nothing to fear in death because your husband, Jesus has defeated death. He has conquered death on the cross of calvary.’
He relayed the case of a young boy that was shot with his intestine ripped. ‘despite losing so much blood, and spending so much time while he was being taken to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, the boy still survived. Infact the doctors were giving up on him when they discovered he was breathing. The boy is still alive. You can’t die until your day comes’ He said.
Adeboye who preached on the topic ‘thank God for Calvary said believers have every reason to thank God stressing that ‘if you have nothing to thank God for, thank him for Calvary. The Lord achieved many things on Calvary for us.
‘We should thank God for his blood which he shed on Calvary. We should thank God for the stripes he took on our behalf. We should thank God for the name of Jesus and for the victory he earned at Calvary.’
