Dasuki, Sowore release: CAN commends FG, says its Christmas gift

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has described the Tuesday order for the release of  the duo of former National Security Adviser (NSA) Rtd. Colonel Sambo Dasuki and the publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore as Christmas gift.

In a press statement on Wednesday the CAN President, His Eminence,  Rev Dr. Samson Ayokunle also thanked the federal government for the decision.

While noting that the release of these two people signified a new dawn for our democracy Ayokunle says in the statement, “We are very happy with the decision of the Federal government to release the duo of former National Security Adviser (NSA) and the publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore as mandated by the Federal High Court, Abuja. We appreciate the Attorney General of the Federation and the Minister of Justice for his intervention and counsel.”

The CAN president stated further that “as long as the Federal government continues to respect the rule of law and the Constitution, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) will continue to work with the government to ensure that there is peace and stability in the polity.”

He then assured President Mohammadu Buhari and his team of continuous prayers for a successful tenure of office.

He added that, “Nigeria should be a pace setter for the continent in everything good, being the giant of Africa in the abundance of human and material resources’

The Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami made the release of the duo known in a statement on Tuesday.

Malami said the decision to release them was in compliance with the bail granted the two by the court.

Dasuki and Sowore

It will be recalled that both Sowore and Dasuki have been in detention for a while.  Dasuki has been detained since the inception of the government of President Mohammadu Buhari.  Sowore on the other hand was detained released and rearrested again. There had been a lot of public outcry for the release of both Sowore and Dasuki since the courts have granted them bail. But for a long time the public demand did not yield any fruit until now.
