There is no biblical basis for breaking curses-Rev. Ladi Thompson

The General Overseer of Living Waters Unlimited, Rev Ladi Thompson has observed that it is biblical illiteracy that would make Christians break curses whenever they pray.

Thompson made the observation in a video post on his Facebook page where he noted that it is not possible to break a curse.

He asked,  between breaking curses and destroying curses which is more powerful? while also explaining that there is a difference between breaking curses and destroying curses.

Quoting Numbers 23 v 5, he said God turned the curses of Balaam to blessings rather than breaking his curse. He said, “everywhere in the Bible, God sets before us blessings and curses, life and death. Anybody who wastes his time breaking curses instead of destroying curses will labour for many years.”

He explained that “the power of the curse is from the kingdom of darkness. If you remove the power of curse it can not operate. The power of blessing too comes from the kingdom of God. To destroy a curse, you introduce blessings instead of breaking it.”

Balaam according to him was an “expert in curses. In Number 22v12 God himself said to Balaam that you can’t curse my people because they are blessed. Where there is the curse of bareness, get the blessing of fruitfulness. If you break darkness or curse it will reassemble. God told Balaam don’t curse these people because he has blessed them. When Balaam opened his mouth and wanted to curse Israel, it was blessings that came out.”

Thompson who dramatized his presentation said “as long as you are blessed by God nobody can curse you. No curse can work against you if you are blessed. The curse is for those who operate in ignorance which is darkness. The solution to generational curses is generational blessings.”

He said further, “God made a promise to Abraham that He would bless those who bless you and curse those who curse you. In you Abraham, all the families of the earth will be blessed. God said to Abraham he would bless those who bless him and curse those who curse him. God is the one who does the cursing.”

On generational blessings, he said, “God has foreseen that it is through Abraham that he will justify the heathen. The meaning of Abraham’s blessing is that he will bless those who bless you and curse those who curse you. The blessing of Abraham is on me and I don’t have to curse. When you bless those who bless you, you have confirmed that you are a child of God.

Somebody is cursing you and you bless the person it shows you are a confirmed child of God. If you do that from a pure heart. That is what God is waiting for. Anybody who is not in faith can’t do it. Anybody who is in the household of faith is blessed in Abraham. If anybody tries to curse you, it is God that will curse the person, not you. Curses don’t break.”

Rev. Ladi Thompson is indeed a Bible scholar, and one who does not stir up emotionalism in order to make mincemeat of sheepish sheep. He expressed by the message that he is not at home with biblical illiteracy, which according to Myles Munro breeds anointed ignorance. Our of curiosity, I sneaked into his church about a decade ago. I saw "Oracle" in place of the plate number of his vehicle, and to a great extent I agreed with him, and especially from the backdrop of his TV appearances. All these cursing syndromes are aliens to the New Testament. Neither Jesus Christ, nor the apostles, nor the written word support these emerging 21st century spiritual assasins. One does not have to pass Religious Knowledge at First School Leaving Certficate to realise that Christianity had moved on several kilometres beyond Elijah, Elisha, etc- Romans 12: 14; Luke 9: 54-56. Even Job, an Old Testament saint received grace to ask for padlock over his mouth to prevent him cursing anyone -Job 31: 29-30. And by the way, how does one curse someone who has been blood - washed by Christ who had not broken the hedge that would have allowed the serpent to bite in view of Gal. 3: 13? How can the weapon of curse prosper over God's children in spite Isa. 54: 17? Even I fail to find basis for the so-called generational curses in the light of Ezek. 18: 3, 4, 20, Jer. 31: 29-30. Even In the very first place that the issue of generational curse came up in Exo. 20: 5, there was already a conditionality for automatic reversal in the very next verse! Christ indeed came not merely to break the branches or the stems, not to talk of plucking the leaves, but to pull out from the root all curses, that is to destroy all curses and in a sense render them causeless curses and of no effect- ODUNUGA, O.
