The leadership of Grace Outreach Global Church has advised that offerings contributed in places of worship should be deployed to assist Church members and should not be be used for pastors alone.
A resident pastor of the church in Akure, Ondo State, Mopelola Aigbogun also founder of Hands of Grace, a nonprofit organisation made this known at an event where palliatives were given to members of the church recently.
Aigbogun who said the church was giving out palliative for the second time in two months, stated that churches should be at the vanguard of reaching out to the vulnerable always and should not wait till crisis time.
‘religious worship centres should also cater for the physical welfare of the people apart from their spiritual lives. The way we can give back to them is to give what they have given for the common good’ she said.
About 100 members of the Church in Akure, Ondo State were given sizeable food items including garri, rice and palm oil that will last them for days.
The Senior Pastor of the church, Apostle Segun Aigbogun said the Church has a responsibility to its members pointing out that the Church exists for the people.
He said it was easy for the Church to carry out the gesture of giving out palliatives because it has a database of its members.
‘we were able to reach members through our data base and through the leaders of the groups in the church. That is why we are able to observe social distancing. There is no crowd around where the distribution is being done.’
Some members of the church who spoke at the event testified of how the church has been responding to needs around even when there was no crisis stating that the Church has demonstrated the love of Christ over the years.
