2023: CAN explains reason for interaction with presidential candidates, urges Nigerians to vote the best

The Christian Association of Nigeria has said the recent interactive session it had with all the presidential candidates in the 2023 race is not an endorsement of any of them.

It said rather that it was an opportunity to rub minds on the teething problems in the country.

The body then urged all Nigerians “to listen dispassionately to all that the presidential candidates have to say and judge from the depths of their consciences who will best lead the nation into a new era of peace, security, prosperity, and collective progress.”

This plea was contained in a statement by its President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh on Thursday, November 24.

Okoh in the statement made available to Church Times pleaded with Presidential candidates in the 2023 race to walk the talk if any one of them is elected.

He thanked those who participated in the interactive session of CAN

He noted that CAN had articulated its ideas of what should be done to bring Nigeria out of the woods in a document christened, The Charter for a New Nigeria. This was presented to all the presidential candidates.

Okoh then charged “those among them who have made up their minds to execute the suggested solutions to our national crisis as spelt out in the charter to walk that talk seriously if elected in 2023”

He called for an “understanding of the issues on the ground and thorough planning to ensure that pronouncements do not end up as mere rhetoric while an impatient public counts the days – for implementation.”

While noting that the next president will be under performance pressure, he said, “we make a solemn promise to keep our doors open for further discussion on how best to make these laudable ideas a reality for the public good.”
