The Anglican Bishop of the Diocese of Lagos West of the Anglican Communion, The Rt Rev Olusola Odedeji has urged Anglicans in the Agege and Iju Ishaga archdeaconries of the diocese to remain steadfast and hold to the profession of their faith.
He made the plea during a two-day Episcopal visit to the archdeaconries recently
He was accompanied on the visit by his wife, Dr. (Mrs.) Lydia Olukemi Odedeji, the Dean of the Cathedral, Ven. Ebenezer Adewole, the host Archdeacons, The Ven Tunde Owoyele and The Ven Taiwo Olupitan and other senior clergymen.
Bishop Odedeji during the visit commended the unwavering faith of church members in the areas while also urging them to remain steadfast and not be swayed by the challenges ithe enemy may throw at them..
He praised their resilience in the face of infrastructural challenges and poor road networks around the Lagos-Ogun border axis.
The Anglican Bishop visited about 13 parishes in the Agege Archdeaconry . They include St Paul’s Church, Sango
C.O.P, Oke ira, Holy Trinity, Aguda, St Andrews Ifako
Our Saviour Imola CAAMAC Oko Oba. All Saints Orile.
Also in the list of churches visited are Church of Pentecost, Dopemu, St. John’s Papa Asafa, Anglican Church, Cement
Holy Trinity, Mangoro and the Headquarters Christ Church, Agege
Iju Ishaga
He visited parishes in Iju-Ishaga Archdeaconry.. They include St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Kongo Agbado; Anglican Church of the Epiphany, Adiyan; St. James Anglican Church, Abule-Iroko; Anglican Church, Lemode-Ijoko; and Anglican Church, Opeilu, St James Church, Abule Iroko.
St Peters Church Ojokoro, Anglican Church of the Pentecost, Olaniyi, St Barnabas Church, Oko Oba, and the Archdeaconry headquarters, St John’s Church, Iju-ishaga were also visited by the Bishop.
During the visit he emphasized the need for increased evangelism, as he described the region as a strategic hub for spreading the gospel, given the continuous influx of people to the place due to socio-economic factors.
He commended parishioners for the beautiful worship houses built for the glory of God despite the harsh economy.
Govt effort
The Diocesan also acknowledged ongoing efforts by both Lagos and Ogun state governments to improve infrastructure in the area.
He urged Christians in the area to remain prayerful for the swift completion of these projects.
Bishop Odedeji also encouraged parishioners to love one another and continue to pray for the church of God and its leadership.
“I challenged you my people to call on your friends, sons and daughters both here in Nigeria and diaspora to assist in developing our churches because while the diocese is willing to assist parishes under it, there is the challenge of meeting the increasing demand for assistance.
He however pledged that despite the limitations, the diocese will continue to strive to assist churches where and when necessary.
