Take definite action on banditry and terrorism, group tells Buhari

Christian Conscience, a non-denominational group has observed that until President Mohammadu Buhari takes some definite steps concerning banditry and terrorism in Nigeria, it will be difficult to see an end to their activities.

The group made the observation at a recent meeting in Lagos.

National Chairperson Christian Conscience, Dr. Mrs. Yetunde Akinluyi

In a statement jointly by its National Chairperson, Dr. Mrs. Yetunde Akinluyi, and the National Secretary, Revd. Dr. Kolawole Verralls, the body lamented the parlous security situation in the country.

The group observed that so far, there appears to be no serious action from the government.

Part of the statement reads, “It is really appalling and disheartening seeing our dear Nation under the siege of banditry and terrorism where farmers who are supposed to produce food and crops for the Nation are being dehumanized and killed.

“You can’t be fighting terrorism and not name and shame their sponsors. By not releasing the names of the sponsors is an indication that government is not yet serious about fighting the menace”

While urging Nigerians to sustain their resilience the body called for persistence in prayers. “we need to continue to pray to God for His intervention in the affairs of the Nation so that our lost Glory shall be restored,” the statement reads

On the 61st Anniversary of Nigeria, the group says, “We congratulate our gallant men and women of the Armed Forces, Patriotic and Proactive Nigerians who are fighting day and night to keep Nigeria safe and united.

The group also urged the Buhari-led government to create room for interactive sessions, engage in objective and productive town hall meetings because the economic growth and sustenance of the Nation is the concern of all.

Members of Christian Conscience after their meeting

Christian Conscience also urged political and Christian leaders to intensify fervent and ceaseless prayers for Nigeria so as to surmount her numerous problems.

The group then called on political leaders “to formulate, initiate and embark on policies that will unite and take Nigeria to a greater height,”
