Apostle Bamgbola, ex-Lagos CAN chair, others celebrate Goodness Oku@70

Former Chairman of Lagos Chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Apostle Alex Bamgbola, and a coterie of church leaders, friends, and family members gathered on Monday, October 25 to celebrate Pastor Mrs. Goodness Oku on her 70th birthday.

Mrs. Oku and her husband founded Home Builders Christian Ministry. They have been instrumental in building lives and impacting couples over the years.

The celebration which took place at the Okoafo, Badagry residence of the celebrant also served as an occasion to recount Mrs. Oku’s impact in the lives of many.

Those who spoke at the occasion recalled the great impact she made in their lives. They talked glowingly about her generousity describing her as a woman of great virtue.

Her husband, Apostle Israel Oku said his 45 years of marriage has been peaceful and fruitful because of his wife’s exceptional moral qualities.

“The good thing about my wife is that she is a submissive woman, humble and always wants the good of her husband and the children. The virtues in her life are priceless. We were friends for a couple of years before we married. But we have been married for 45 years now. It’s been a great journey of love and affection.”

Former Chairman of CAN, Apostle Bamgbola while delivering a brief message at the event described Goodness Oku as truly a woman of virtue.

He said Mrs. Oku had always made a great impact on him each time he came visiting. He recalled how the celebrant and her husband showed great love to his family during his trying moments.

He prayed that the celebrant would see more years in good health noting that “the need to number our days has become imperative because we are not the owners of our lives.”

Apostle Bamgbola said further, “When the Bible admonishes us to number our days, what the Bible is saying is that we need to keep appreciating God for giving us life and for keeping us alive. Every human being that does not appreciate God is worthless.

“The essence of our existence is tied to God. We have no reason to boast about anything because he owns our lives and he can recall the life anytime. So we need to always appreciate him for keeping us alive.”

He explained further that “We number our days because every day we live, we are getting closer to our maker. There is always a day of return. Unfortunately many will return to hell by choice. So, every day we live must give us that sense of awareness that one day we will return to our maker and our God.”

He recalled how God saw the celebrant through trying times of sickness and challenges noting that her daily sacrifice of love has kept her strong.

The event which spanned about four hours featured a brief prayer session for the celebrant and time to praise and thank God.
