Arrest of Uche Nwosu in St. Peter’s Anglican Church disgraceful- CAN

The Christian Association of Nigeria has described as disgraceful the arrest of Mr. Uche Nwosu at St. Peter’s Anglican Cathedral Umunwokwe village in Imo State.

Pastor Adebayo Oladeji, Special Assistant (Media &Communications) to the president of CAN said the act shows a lack of respect for the church of God.

CAN states, ‘We feel highly embarrassed by this ugly development and feel pained that the Nigeria Police had no respect even for the House of God. We cannot remember whether this act of disrespect for God ever happened before in our country.’

The Christian  body then called on  the  Police to apologize without giving any excuse.

It also demanded tbat law enforce.ent agents should be more circumspect in the performance of their duties.

CAN said furtherr, ‘We are not asking the Police or the security agencies not to do their constitutional duties but the idea of desecrating the House of God in doing so is totally unacceptable, unfortunate and reprehensible. ‘

The Christian association then urged the Inspector General of Police to call his men to order asking them to show some.respect to the houses of worship.

Uche Nwosu, former governorship candidate of Action Alliance (AA) in Imo state was arrested while in church on Sunday December 26  by the police.

Armed police officers were said to have shot sporadically into the air while carrying out the arrest.

Nwosu according to reports said he was not invited by the police before he was arrested.

Though he has since been released there is no clear reason yet why he was arrested.
