Adeboye: My “daughter” was asked to inflate N3m contract to N33m, another given contract for already tarred road

Pastor Enoch Adeboye

General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye has recalled how one of his daughters in faith was asked to inflate a N3m contract to N33m while lamenting the high rate of corruption in the country.

He made the disclosure in his sermon which was monitored by Church Times on Saturday, August 10 at the Church’s convention. The event took place at the Redemption City along Lagos Ibadan express road.

Adeboye said the person in question was given a contract to tar a road in a particular state in Nigeria. He said the lady was asked to inflate the cost of the project from N3 million which she wrote in her proposal to N33 million.

Adeboye said the lady was however courageous enough to resist the temptation. “She turned down the offer and said I am a child of God, how will I spend the money? They looked at her as if she was somebody who dropped from the sky.” Adeboye recalled.

The RCCG overseer however noted that corruption is pervasive in the country because Christians who are supposed to be peculiar people and make a difference have compromised. “It is difficult to know who is who.” He stated

He recalled another instance of another child in the faith who was given a contract to tar a particular road. “She got to the road and discovered that the road was already tarred. She came back and reported that the road was already tarred. They said what is your problem, collect your money and give us our own.”

Holy Communion

Adeboye who was about administering the holy communion then urged his listeners to resist the temptation of compromising their faith in the face of temptations no matter the deprivation they suffer.

He said, “Those of you that will come to the table must enter into a covenant with God that you will not compromise. This convention is about heaven. That is why we started with the topic, “as pure as light”. You are a peculiar people. They must be able to see you at a distance and know that this is a candidate for heaven.”

He warned that not everybody could take the holy communion. “It is a meal that the one who started it said he was going to prepare a place so that where he is we will be also. Those who are on their way to heaven are peculiar, holy, and royal people. They are the people that will come to the holy communion table. You can’t come to the table if you are quarreling with a brother and you make up your mind you will never forgive him.”

God’s will

He recalled what transpired in his younger days. “When I was younger, when the holy communion night was approaching, a lot of reconciliation took place. You can’t take the meal unworthily. It is not just an ordinary meal. There is power mighty in the holy communion.”

While stating that he has been sober lately, he said the night before he almost ran out of God’s favour.

Adeboye said, “Holiness means total obedience to God. I have been sober since yesterday. It took special love that God did not knock me on the head. God wanted to talk, but I wanted to preach a sermon that I had prepared. He told me, you have done fine enough. He wanted me to move out of the way. As he was talking, I was interrupting.”

He then warned against doing things contrary to God’s will stating, “You are dealing with God almighty. You can’t love the church more than the owner of the church. When he says this is how I want to go and you try to do it your way, you are on your own.”

He urged participants at the event to come to the communion table with determination to make a covenant with God not to compromise their faith. “You are coming with a strong determination. If anybody wants you to compromise for the sake of a job or promotion, let him keep it. It is God who promotes.”
