The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has declared that the three-word phrase.prayer, ‘God bless me,’ is the most important prayer anyone can offer.
He made this submission on Saturday, December 13, at the ongoing Holy Ghost Congress of the church, which would.conclude on Sunday, December 14, with a Thanksgiving service.
Adeboye, who had earlier narrated the biblical account of Isaac blessing his sons, Jacob and Esau, emphasized the power of a father’s blessing.
He noted that Esau, who received the lesser blessing, was so prosperous that he had 400 bodyguards by the time he reunited with his brother, Jacob, many years later.
”If the one who got the least blessing from his father was that blessed, how much more Jacob, who was the first person his father blessed,” he stated.
According to him, a father’s blessing is irreversible. He then assured the congregation that he was blessing them as their spiritual father.
The Power of ‘God Bless You’
Pastor Adeboye then shared a personal incident that happened early in the year, which, in his words, made him realize the power of simply saying, “God bless you.”
He said, “The biggest prayer I can pray for anyone is God bless you. I was going out early in the year on my prayer night walk,” he recounted.
“Of course, when I go on a night walk, I don’t take money with me. The things I go with are my pen and a little notebook in case my Daddy (God) wants to talk with me. At times, I don’t even go out with my wristwatch because I don’t want to be controlled by time.”
He continued: “I got out of my house and was going towards the Youth Centre. I saw a woman with her child on a piece of cloth. She was hoping that people walking by would see her and give her some money, maybe N100 and so on.”
”I saw her and looked at her. She looked at me. She thought Daddy had come and was hoping I would give her some money. All I could say was, ‘God bless you.’ I had nothing on me. She said amen.”
Pastor Adeboye continued his walk after praying for the woman. As he got to the gate, a man approached him and said he had brought his first fruit offering.
”The man said he wanted to give me his firstfruit. He brought the envelope. I collected it and prayed for him.”
By the time the Pastor Adeboye checked the envelope, he discovered it contained many thousands of naira.
”God told me your prayer for that woman is already answered,” And He asked me to give the money to the woman.”
Pastor Adeboye immediately turned back. The woman and her child were still by the roadside. “He handed over the envelope to her.
The woman took the envelope and looked at it. What she saw in that envelope, she knew she wouldn’t beg again. She screamed and was weeping, shouting ‘Jesu oooo,’ meaning ‘Oh Jesus.’ I too was saying, ‘Oh Jesus.’ For the first time, I saw the power in ‘God bless you.’“
Pastor Adeboye concluded by encouraging his listeners to always say amen when they hear ‘God bless you,’ reiterating that there is no prayer greater than the three word phrase request.
